Arsenal Planning To Sign Appiah
With so much written about the lack of summer signings by the club, reports have emerged that Arsenal are seriously considering the possibility of signing Ghanaian international Stephen Appiah. Described as an ‘enforcer’, he is a free agent now after his release from Turkish side Fenerbache. In a typical footballer interview before a new deal, Appiah had this to say:
“There are contracts, there are talks – I can’t say anything yet. I am not going to put people off, my agents are talking so I have nothing else to say.”
Let us wait for further developments. Meanwhile, Amaury Bischoff (remember him?) says that he could be back in full training within a few weeks. Now that is a good news. If the Appiah signing actually happens and we have Bischoff back in training, we needn’t worry much about the ‘big gap in midfield’ that was created after the departure of Flamini, Gilberto and Hleb.
Speaking of which…Flamini says that he doesn’t regret his decision of leaving Arsenal for Milan. He says:
“I don’t regret deciding to join AC Milan. I’m happy with the choice I’ve made. Milan has given me trust and I’m trying to repay them — we can always win the UEFA Cup.”
Or, you may not win the UEFA Cup, you may warm the bench and watch Arsenal play in the Champions League on your telly. Your departure isn’t going to affect us. We managed to do well without your fellow Frenchman. And now that you are gone, we have another Frenchman, who says he is on a mission. Well, good luck to him and hope he does well for club and country.
Not much to talk about, as the internationals come calling. This is going to be one boring week. So, I’m going to end this post with a little ’shocking’ news. According to sources close to the England camp, Fabio Capello is planning to select Theo Walcott instead of David Beckham in the match against Andorra. This will be a huge confidence booster for the young man and that should reflect on his performance for the club. Here’s wishing Walcott and Andorra good luck for the game.
More tomorrow.
